The new right perspective:
- I feel like some aspects of the new right perspective of the family seems like an unrealistic view of the family.
- Yes, it is right enough to point out the importance of family and to realise how much of an affect it has on society.
- However, the view that the nuclear family is the normal family unit, in this day and age it seems rather unresonable to say, as facts suggest this type of family unit only accounts for less than 20% of the families in Britain.
- They seem to have a negative attitude towards the trends they believe that are causing the breakdown of marriage and society in general such as greater tolerance of homosexuality and easier divorce and the influence of feminism, i feel although these may be factors, these things are beneficial in our society. Creating equality instead of persuing unhappy marriages.
- In some cases the breakdown of a family may result in crime, however it is unfair to puyt all the blame of rising crime on single parent families, besides playing the blame game is not resolving these issues.
Feminist theories on the family:
- I agree with many of the points made, however the concept of radical feminism is a highly controvercial one which do not agree with in the slightest. They seem to be highly hippocritical, in the fact that they are doing exactly what they have been protesting about for years. They also seem to have the view that ALL men are evil and want to take control over them which is certainly not creating equality. They are so negative and extreme it is hard to take them seriously.
- Feminsts have came a long way in the past years on the road to equality. For example, post war they were expected to stay at home, clean, cook, look after the children ect, it's just how things were so no-one thought anything of it. However, during the war women were forced to take up jobs that were seen to mens jobs bringing about a drastic change that they could never go back to the way things were in the past or ever imagine how things would be now.
